International Study Opportunities
Wharton’s MBA students gain global perspectives and skills from their classmates, their classes, learning opportunities in the international business environment, and a curriculum that encourages cross-cultural collaboration and engagement. You will already be immersed in a global community at Wharton as about 1/3 of our students are from outside the U.S. each year.
International Programs
Wharton offers three primary international programs in addition to the required global-focused core classes, international dual-degree programs, and consulting opportunities in emerging countries.
Global Modular Courses (GMC)
You will experience short, full-credit courses in an intensive workshop format in a country relevant for the topic (e.g. health care delivery in Hyderabad, India). Since 2012, courses have been offered in Brazil, China, India, Israel, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Global Immersion Program (GIP)
You will get a high-level survey of the economic, cultural, and geo-political drivers behind regions integral to the global economy, then experience it in-country. Since its creation in 1993, more than 1,800 Wharton MBA students have participated in the GIP elective.
Global Consulting Practicum (GCP)
You will work with faculty as well as teams from partner schools in Chile, China, Colombia, India, Israel, Peru, and Spain. Since 1978, more than 1,000 students have added more than $300 million in annual sales to more than 250 clients’ U.S. Revenues by participating in the GCP.
Combined International Studies Degrees
You can combine your Wharton MBA with full interdisciplinary degree programs in International Studies through the following institutions:
University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute
School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University
Extracurricular and Co-curricular Activities
International Conferences
You can participate in student-led international student business conferences that address regional business issues.
Wharton Global Impact Consultants
You will participate in consulting engagements that help private organizations with operations, business planning, start-up strategy, financial projections, and costing. These projects usually last two to four weeks during the summer and may take place in India, Asia, Africa, or South America.
Global Career Treks
Each year, you will have the opportunity to meet with more than 250 companies for informational interviews and industry exposure to sectors such as Venture Capital/Private Equity, Technology, Real Estate, Biotech/Health Care, and Media and Entertainment.
